The Chronicle PUBLISHED DAILY LEVIN. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24, 1913. THE LABOUR JOURNAL.
Tub latest number of the Journal of the Labour Department is to hand, and, as usual, it is replete with interesting facts and figures, lis usefulness and interest, howeve 1, would be'greatly enhanced if the condition of. trade and labour in the Horowhemia district were given. With a population of over 10,000, and embracing as it does the extensive dairying and flaxniilling districts between Paekakariki and the Manawatu liivor, it is hard to understand why the public should be denied the information to which it is entitled, and which it is the duty of the Department's agent to collect and foi'ward to the head _ office. This is not the first occasion on which avo have felt conpelled to draw attention to this 'singular omission. The last three or four numbers of the Journal were the same, and we are satisfied that someone is remiss in his duties. There are two ways in'which this undesirable state of affairs could be remedied: the agent might bo stiired up, or an agent appointed in Levin. The latter is probably the best, both from a commonsense standpoint and a recognition of the importance of the town, and that its central position keeps it in constant touch with the varying trades and labour currents of the district.
