The Native Lands Court for the South Island was to have been opened at Kaiapoi 10-day, by Judge Gil tedder, but as the records had gone astray he could not do so. The records are contained in two large cases, and while they would not be of value to the ordinary thief, they are of the greatest value to the Court. Thoy have gone astray between Wellington and Ivaiapoi. The cases contain the minutes of the C6urt from the first Native Land Court held in Christchurch, in 180S, down to the present, as well as a great mass of Maori""] ore given in evidence, consisting of traditions, genealogies, etc., of some historical value.
