POUT. _\ The latest issue of the Labour Journal gives the following details regarding labour conditions iu the Palmerston North district: Trade has been very satisfactory for the time of the year, although the general opinion is that money is tighter than usual. Outside labour has been specially busy in the building trades, several large premises being still in the course of erection. Building trades: Bricklaying ana carpentry and joinery very busy. Painting and plastering very good. Plumbing and gasfitting busy. . Stone-masonry fair. Woodworking trades : Boxmalcing—An improvement since last month is noticeable. Cabinetmaking and unholstering fair. Sash and door factories busy.

Engineering trades generally have been very good, with all hands fully employed. Leather trades: Bootmaking (repair-shops) good. Saddlery and harnessmaking fair.

Clothing trades: .Dressmaking and millinery very busy; working overtime. Tailoring" (order)

busy. IJetail trades: Clothing, boots, drapery, and groceries—Very good trade has been done.

Printing trades: Bookbinding , and printing very busy; working overtime in some departments.

Meat-freezing, etc.: The factories are closed down and will resume operations about November. Coaphbuilding trades: Blacksmithing fair. Coach and carriage building good. Cycle and motor trades: Plenty of work, mostly repairs, in hand. Agricultural operations : I,,arming/ dairying, etc.—The season is commencing to be busier. Miscellaneous: Flax-mills arc in full swing, but there have been more hands out of work this season than for some long time past.

Unskilled labour: There have been more men than usual assisted to other places during the past month, and the local supply has been more than e(|ual to the demand.
