Peter W'aite, a well-known agriculturist, presented the university with his house and l-'M acres oi land at Urhal, near tile city, of a value of £o(),IJ0() .fur the purpose o an Agricultural High School. The only stipulations that Mr AVaite makes governing his gift of land to the State- is that half of the land be used for agriculture and hi ml red studies: the balance for ;i public park • and that no succession duties be levied on the property. In making the offer he iudica-ted his belief that the time was approaching when Australian manufacturers must keep pace with the demand for a national, outlet for the rising generation. To hi in it appeared that produc- , ing weal Hi from the land was the best means lo that goal, and he urged that in view of keen competition, there was need for scieniifieially equipping agriculturists in the best possible manner.
