Sir -losepli Ward paid a tribute lo the work done by Mr A. McXab, when Minister for Lands, in connection with the reclamation of these plains. Mr Masscy spoke hopefully of tin? prospect of the plains as the centre of settlement, saying the administration of this work was amongst the most pleasant of his duties* as Minister for Lands.
A BREAKDOWN AT SEA
Auckland, October 2
The steamer Morayshire, which arrived from London this morning after a lengthy passage of sixty-eight days, luid a brealalown of her engines 122 miles past Capetown, which necessitated nutting in there for repairs, which occupied two days. Un the voyage to Hobart several stops Avere made to enable the engineers to effect slight repairs. The mishaps did not affect any l)ig narts of her machinery. The Morayshire brought fifty immigrants, a lnrge proportion of them lauding at Auckland.
