A remarkable family tragedy has been revealed owing to a Mrs Bowe being discovered unconscious in a hotel at King's Cross, and her son, Alec, a Blue Coat boy, dead near by, from the effects of eating chocolates containing morphia. Her husband, who was a silk merchant at Cork, previously drowned himself in a bath, owing to business trouble, and the eldest son, William, committed suicide with gas, Alec narrowly escaping, as William placed the tube from the gas bracket under the clothes of the bed which the boys shared. The mother, apparently determined to give Alec a final "good time," came to London for a fortnight, took a t.axi cab drive daily, and went to the theatre every evening; then gave her son poisoned chocolates.
