The final report of the inspectors appointed to investigate the affairs of the Colonial Mutual Life has been tabled ia the House of Assembly. It states that at the date of the investigations the society was solvent, and able to meet all liabilities immediate and prospective. The charges of fraud, dishonesty of management, and incapacity, made against the directors and managers are wholly unjustifiable. The actuarial valuation is substantially correct. Assets shown on the books and the balancesheet have been verified; all the assets are of good value for the amounts shown. The more serious of the other allegations were not justified, and the remainder have 110 material bearing on the position of the society. The directors of the society regard the report as highly satisfactory, as it proves that the reflections cast upon the management are unjustifiable. (Received 9.45 a.m.) Sydney, This Day. Commissioners have been empowered to euquire whether the hlon. Mr Griffith, in his administration of the Public Works Depal tuient, was guilty of any dishonest conduct in connection with the construction of the city railway. '.ertain train extension and land purchase at Ulirs Point; but Ihe Medlow land purchase, one of Mi: Wade's charges, is excluded. The Premier (the Hon Mr Holliian) in announcing the appointment to the Legislative Assembly, said the Commission fully embraced every charge • against the lion. Mr Griffith regarding his administration of the department : if other charges were made the scope would be widened to embrace them later. Mr Wade moved the adjournment of the House, and complained about the exclusion of the Medlow charge. A warm debate followed, wherein the Government's action was severely attacked.
