Horowhenua Boating Club.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. Horowhonua Boating Club held its annual general meeting last night, Mr M. Fosella presiding. There was an attendance of fifteen members. In a brief opening address, Mr Fosella made a review of the club's history. He said: "Since our club was formed, in 1890, this is its sixteenth annual meeting. During this long period of existence it has been subject to many fluctuations, and .1, as its founder, feel it very keenly to see it reduced to its present position. It is astonishing that Ihe Levin people do ifot realise the physical, moral anl material benefits they could derive from it. Mowing is one of the most muscle-Forming and chest-expand-ing exercises; both these arc oadly needed by our youths. Regattas and sailing races are recognised to be the -purest of sports, and all over the world they creatv : great enthusiasm and draw enormous crowds. We have a magnificent lake which is all that can be desired for boating, and 1 consider that it is the duty of all those who have at heart the prosperity of our town and the health of (he coming generation to give our club their support. T recommend the incoming committee to use all its energy in organising aquatic sports and to induce people to become members." The secretary (Mr P. Frechtling) said it was a good omen f:• r I lie future that lately he had ha I more inquiries as to membership and general prospects than had been the case for several years. Personally he had the interests of the club at heart ns much as ever he had, but he had less time to spare now than formerly, and ' for that reason he would he pleased to see some other member undertake- the secretarial duties. MrTT. "R. France saul that judging by the report and bv what he knew personally it would he necesary at once to have the boats repaired. TTe understood Mr Arms had done this work when it was required once before: he did not know whether his service? could bo obfnined again. Tt was decided: that the incoming committee be left in deal with this matter. LAST YKAR'S DOINGS. The report and .balance-siict di.M-losed a fairly satisfactory position. There had been thirteen members for (he full season and a further five members for the latter half of: the season. Previous to last season the club had not issued membership for less than !h( full season, but the commit!" >e decided to make the innovation for that season, and it considered that the new* rule might act satisfactorily this season. The club commenced last season in good order and a full outfit of oars and rowlocks; bul on a recent inspection it was found that an entrant". , had been forced into the shed by removing and breaking one of the boards at the side, through which both whites and natives had gained an tMitrance: and to this iivi been put down the loss of most of the oars and rowlocks. The report and balance-sheet as lead were adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Messrs Mills, Bennett, R. Russell, W. Rose, IF. Butler, W. Clark, P. Teale and .]. Coombes were elected to membership. Officers were elected as follows: Patron, Mr Byron Brown: president, Mr Robertson. M.P.: vicepresidents, Dr Kennedy, Major Burlinson. Messrs Tl. ' Walkley, Pyke and C. Blenkhoru: captain, Mr. S. Brewstor: vice-captain Mr AV. Clark, lion, secretory and treasurer, Mr Walker: committee, Messrs B. Macintosh, J. Young, H. 13. France, W. Rose, H. Dean, W. Bonnet, and Butler: auditors, Messrs Walkley and Haswell. OPENING OF TITK SEASON.
