[I'KLI I'KKSS ASSOCIATION.] KOYD GAKLKJK COMMISSION. Wellington, Sept. 25. The committee appointed to eu quire into the appointment of M, Jloyd Garlick, as director of physical training, reported:— (1) That there was no evidence to show improper motives on the part of the Minister. (2) That in making the appointment the Minister believed he was acting in the public interest. (3) That the Hon. James Alien, acting en advice, belioved Mr Garlick was qualified to fill ike position when he made the appointment. (4) That Mr G. W. Forbes (Hurunui) made no direct charge against the Minister, and there was no evidence to support the suggestion that the appointment was due to political influence.
(5) That the statement made by Mr Laurenson (Lyttelton), that the Minister appointed a personal friend, was without justification and incorrect. (6) That the salary was not excessive for a thoroughly competent man, but it would have been advisable to invite applications for the position both, within and without the dominion. The report was adopted, a hostile amendment moved by Mr Russel being' rejected by 37 votss to 31.
