Levin Ladies' Hockey Club.

* . ANNUAL BALL. The Levin Ladies' Hockey Club hold their annual ball in the Town Hall, Levin, Inst night. There wore about 100 couples present, and dancing was kept merrily going until the early hours of the morning-. This function is always looked upon as one of the best affairs of its kind held in Levin, and judging by Inst night's success, it was far ahead of all i(s predecessors. The ladies of the club arc to be congratulated upon the manner in which this function wont oft', for there was not n hitch in the proceedings, and the way in which the supper arrangements were earned out with such a largo crowd reflects great credit on the workers who were responsible for this department. The floor was in excellent order, and Messrs Broughtou and Pink were responsible for this. The hall was also nicely decorated, with palms and flags, while the lights were shaded with coloured p:»pcr, making the room look very cool for fins time of the year. The '"lookers-on ,, Jk were provided with card tables on ji the stage. Mr J. Kearsley sup•"d the music, while extras wonnicely played by Misses PinTc, Herricks, MoLeavey, Messrs Barraft and Wilson (Shannon). Messrs W. Broughton and E. Tud.J acted as M.'sO. During the ovening Mrs Gardener (president of the club) presented the prizes io the various winners. In th? course of her remarks Mrs Gardener stated that she had been president of the club since its inception, and it gave her great pleasure to be there that night. Although the club was not successful in gaining , honours in the championship, whether for the lack of practice or what, Mrs Gardener said she hoped the members would practise more next year. and got nearer to winning the championship. The donors"of the prizes were also thanked, and the prizes presented. Mrs G. P. Brown's trophy for best forward, Miss Wlntehouso: Mrs B. ft. Gardener's trophy for best back Mrs Pink: # Mrs H. Hall's prize for most improved player, Miss E. Doyle: Mrs A. F. Wilson's trophy for most consistent player, Mrs P. Tuohy.
