The Taranaki Provincial Executive of the Farmers' Union, at its meeting to-day, passed the following resolution : "That the executive extends its thanks and gratitude to the Premier and the Government for the introduction of such a beneficial measure as the Land Laws Amendment Bill.

The trial of .Frank Duggan, William O'Leary and Angus Lament, for assault on a. married woman with intent to commit rape at Matawai, Gisbome, 011 August Uth, concluded in the Supreme Court this morning, when all the prisoners were found guilty of indecent assault and of assault with intent to commit bodily harm.
The 4.1117 expressed the opinion 'that the police protection in the Matawai district was insufficient.
