Horowhenua County Council met this morning, Councillor Stephenson presiding. Details of decisions come to will appear in a later edition.
Mr Robertson, M.P., wrote thai lie had received a copy of the council's application to the Minisret of Public Works for a~grant of £•'!()() to provide access to the properties of-Messrs Mm ray and Pringle. Mr Robertson intimated that he would immediately press the matter on the attention of the Minister.
Mr -1. Roots wrote that he and others had helped to effect repairs on the bridge over the Otaura s(reani in respec( of which Mr Lambert had asked for a grant in aid, of £11. Mr Roots "respectfully requested thai lUs of any sum granted be kept back as the 4 day's pay for his work thereon or his interest therein."
The Shannon poundkeeper, who sold a horse out of (lie pound at auction, and received one shilling for it, wrote asking the council \vh< would pay him the other £2 10- of expenses incurred.
Mi' W. If. Simcox wrote draw-in-.1 attention to the dangerous slate of the forest Lakes Road.
Buchanan and Lllingham, of Waikanae, wrote thai "in the near future the groynes lately built in the AVnikanne River will cause us very considerable• loss, and we will hold the council responsible for any damage caused by the'groynes."
Mr W. H. Simcox wrote that bv Act 48 of the Parliamentary session of -191.2• he noticed that the County Council had power to erect and maintain telephone lines iu country district, and he asked that a telephone line to connect his house and Mr F. S. Simcox's house with the Government telephone exehanxc in Otaki be erected by the council. The distances are ;ibout U and 1 mile, rcspecf i \ el v. from the main vo;id.
Mr lames Tilling, Shannon, asked that the clearing; out of the water-tables 011 the south side of Hryce street, Shannon, be undertaken forthwith.
Mr A. ITillier, Shannon, complained about an eight-weeks' absence from his street of the subsidised visitor. Mr Llillier intimated that he was thinking of approaching the Health Department.
James Padden, surfaceman, Waikanae, asked for an increase of wages, as he was employed in water work and subject to discomfort .
The secretary to the "New Zealand Counties' Association ackrowledged receipt of the council's query as to ""the. supply of gas by.a private company and power of local authority to acquire plant, etc.'" (This question is of special, interest to Shannon). The secretary intimated that the application had been forwarded to the President of the Xew Zealand Counties' Association for his perusal and instructions, and in due course the council -would be given his interpretation.
