TAINUI (18) v. SHANNON (4). Taiuui won the toss and decided to defend the northern goal. Moynilian kicked off for Shannon. Wilson, with a tricky kick, sent the oval into Shannon's twentyfive. From the throw-in Taiuui's forwards carried iplay to Shannon's end, where they were penalised for oif-side play. Henare landed the ball between the posts. Taiuui o, Shannon 0. Malcolm kicked off, and give and take play ended in Tainui's backs breaking away, only to be stopped by the good defensive work oi the Shannon .players. Play ensued in Shannon's twenty-five, till a smart run by Mowbray sent play into Tainui's end, where Henare snapped up the leather, passed out to Nehu, Neliu to Primi, who scored between the posts. Henare made no mistake with the kick. Taiuui 8, Shannon 0. From the kickofl' Shannon's forwards worked play into Tainui's end, where Malcolm picked up the leather, and made a brilliant dash, only to bo grounded right on the line. Mann kicked off, the ball going out in Shannon's quarter. From the throw-in Shannon was penalised, which enabled Henare to have a shot at goal, but the kick failed. Half-time ended with the score: Taiuui 8, Shannon 0. On changing sides, Shannon worked play into Tainui's quarter, where a free kick was awarded to Shannon, but Moynihan's shot went wide. From the kick-off Tainui's backs handled the ball splendidly, but only to be thrown out near the .line. Here Shannon were penalised, and Henare had a shot, which failed. Again Henare picked up the ball, and scored a goal with a beautiful pot. Tainui 12, Shannon 0. Shannon soon worked play into Tainui's twentyfive, and had the latter penned near the line, till a smart kick by Bevan sent play to the half-way line. Fast following up by (he Tainui backs saw Pirimi break away and score. The kick failed : Tainui 15, Shannon 0. Moynihan kicked out, the ball being returned by Bevan into Shannon's quarter, where Simmojids dribbled oyer and scored. Bcvan's kick failed: Tainui 18, Shannon 0. A good kick by Malcolm sent the ball into Tainui's twenty-five, where scrambling play ensued for a while, till Bevan relieved with a good kick to the line out. From the throw-in Shannon's backs charged through, headed by Mowbray, and the dash ended by Fryer potting a magnificent goal: Tainui 18, Shannon 4. A few minutes after the whistle blew the call of time, thus leaving Tainui victorious by 18 points to 4. MiThomas controlled the game.
