LOCAL, SHOPKEEPERS.
(To the Editor). Sir, Hoping that some abler pen than mine would rise to the occasion, I deferred adding my quota to your mild rebuke to our fellow townsmen. When wo think for a moment how many parcels arrive per post, the number of bugs (packed tight) sneaked up under railway carriage, seats, it s no wonder we shopkeepers complain, but we tak<- it quietly lor all know, above everything, we must no! offend. 'These outside shopkeepers do nol support our Army or town band, plant our public gardens, buy tickets galore for everything that is put on the boards, give trophies to every society, and, above all, make no book debts, as they expect cash with order. When misfortune overtakes anyone, the shops here are eanvas-sed-first for support, and without exception they give most liberally. For the Inst twenty years or more - in fact, sinee its foundation - not one shopkeeper has made anything great, and if anyone works long hours, has sleepless nights, its usand;CO.
