The Department of Agriculture lias received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner, dated London, August 2uid. (Note. Quotations, unless other 1 wise specified, are average market prices on spot): — Butter.- -The demand is quiet, with ;i fair demand for best butters. Lower grades receive little attention. The supply exceeds the demand. It. is stated that stocks in cold stores are very heavy. Prices are practically unchanged. Cheese.--The market is firm. There is no change..in prices for ?sew Zealand and Canadian. Finest English cheddar, per cwt., 72s to 7Js; lower grades, 01s to 70s. • Hemp. The market opened dull, and during the week was de- * pressed," but at the close the demand Avas better. New Zealand good fair grade, per ton, £31. (nominal); fair, sellers, £27, buyers, .£2O lbs; August to October, 5s more; fair current Manila, '£31.; forward shipment, £'}0 10s. The output from Manila for the week was 27,000 bales.
