Owing- 1o (lie absence of two councillors from last night's meeting <d' Levin Borough ('ouncil, it was res;lived to defer sonic special business until next week, and a resolut ion was come to in the following' terms : "That the council hold a special meeting to consider the mat ter of M r .1. \Y. There I had been a marked mortality ainongsl young' cattle this season, he said, and he I'elt sure t hat this might be guarded against to some extent if books of relereuee were | available. liorowheiiua is now being ! swamped with representative lootball matches, as they are having three representative matches, in Levin within seven days. r l he first match will be against -Marlborough. on Wednesday, against Taranaki Bon Saturday, and Wellington B on the following- "Wcdnesday. Now that the three leading teams in the Senior Championship contest competition, have got into the posilion, another round will have to be played amongst them, and this will make the season a very long one as without any more matches being' played if will lake until the oDtli of August before flu* second round is finished. The Railway Deparniciit cannot see its way to order trains to lie slowed up when passing' through Levin. This was conveyed in a letter read to the Levin Borough Council at ifs meeting last night. Councillor France took objection against the answer, and said that the department should bo approached again. Levin now was a populous town, and it should receive the same treatment that other towns did. Councillor .Mackenzie remarked that an additional source of danger was the occasional running of a train through Levin without a headlight on it. Only a few niglifs ago there was a narrow escape (on a crossing that was not the Queen sfreet one) through no headlig'ht being on tlio train. Several other councillors spoke of narrow escapes at crossings in the centre ol' Levin.
