White, of the hospital, said an examination of the ITody disclosed the rather unusual condition known as "acid-intoxica-tion," following fatty degeneration of the organs, accelerated by the administration of the anaethetic. These causes combined to produce death. Dr Spilsbury, the pathologist, agreed that the administration of chloroform in the present case was right and proper, and there were 110 means of ascertaining prior to the operation what the boy's condition was. The Coroner remarked that, what with status .lymphatieus and this new condition, the administration of anaesthetics was becoming a very serious matter.
