This novel and interesting —, competition is open to any cysling club (amateur or cash) in the Commonwealth' and New —» Zealand, and the Dunlop Rubber Company trust to the honour of contesting 1 teams to see that .the spirit of the test--clean, healthy sport- is duly carried out. The test is to be an unpaced effort by club teams of ton riders to better a limit of five hurs for a 100 miles relay ride against* time. A A sum of over £200 (trophies or cash) will be awarded in prizes by the Dunlop Rubber Company to the three teams who record fastest performances. Handsome medallions will be awarded by the Dunlop Rubber i Company to all teams who cover the century in or under five hours. Appended are the rules and conditions of test: — 1. Competition will be known as the Dunlop Relay Test, and will be open on August Ist, IUI-j, and finish on ' April -JOth, 1914. The eompe- • tition will be open to teams of ■ ten riders, who shall be memir bers of any cycling club in the Commonwealth and New Zealand. No contestant will be allowed to ride for more than one club, and must have been a member of the said club for at least three months before riding in the above test. A cycling club shall be any group or association of riders mutually banded together for furthering of cycling and cycling interests. In the event of there be ing no cycling club within f radius of twenty miles froi: any centre the Dunlop Rubbe _ Co. will recognise as a club, fo the purpose of the test, an; twelve resident cyclists in tli ' district, and in addition four re sponsible persons capable of act ing as checkers, time keepers etc. It shall be within the dis cretion of the Dunlop Rnbbe Co. to accept or refuse the rec ognition of any such team i they think fit. Clubs nun make as many attempts on tin relay record as they desire, us ing different riders if they sc wish. 2. COURSE. - The total dis tance- over which the test shal be held is 100 miles, made uj of ten relay rides over a tei: miles course- -five fciiles out and five miles back, which shall be negotiated ten times in all. Each member of team shall in turn ride out five miles, turn round checkers, and ride back to starting point. A circular or triangular course will not be permitted. Where possible a five mile stretch of road marked with mile posts, should be selected for the ride, failing which, the course must be measured and marked by cyclometres fitted to two or more machines. Clubs must lie reasonably certain of distance being correct before any rides are recorded on the same, and preferably members of teams should cover a few extra yards each circuit, thereby making certain that a full ten miles (five miles out and back) is ridden in each relay. Any shortage in distance will nullity team's performance, and result in the forfeiture of any prizes or medallions won. The start and finish of the five miles section of road must be marked permannently for future reference. Incorporated in the report forms (supplied by the Dunlop "Rubber Company) giving details of each complete run over 100 miles, will be a declaration by the Club's officials certifying to the correctness of the distance covered. •'». THE DESPATCH. V satchel, or some suitable article (designated the despatch) must be carried riglif through the 1.00 miles. Each contestant at the finish of his ride to cross-line hand the satchel to the next relay rider, who must be on behind the starting line of course. No sectional rider will be accepted unless the despatch is carried over the ten miles ; nor any 100 miles run unless the said despatch is carried by ten riders the full distance. ; f --PACING 01{ SHELTERING will not be allowed and will render void any performance registered by team or individual oil that occasion. 5. ( DESPATCH CARRIERS will not be allowed to ride out on one machine to the turning point and then change on to a higher or low-geared machine to suit the-weather conditions, but in the event of tyre troubles, riders may change on to ailother machine or machines — single tube tyres barred. No restrictions' as to make of bicycle or tyres used. ' (..--MODE OF TIMING. The riding time for the 100 miles relay shall be taken from when the first rider crosses the starting line, and again, when the tenth man crosses the line at the conclusion of the tenth section .with the despatch. The individual times of each ber of the team for his ten mile

ride, must be taken unci set forth in the report form, the said report to be signed by the timekeepers, the checkers at turning' point, and secretary of the competing club, and forwarded without delay to The Dunlop lilibber Company's nearest depot. A declaration to be sworn before a .Justice of the Peace, as to the genuineness of times recorded, will be incorporated in report form. A time limit of live hours has been fixed for the century, and 110 performance extending over such time will be entitled to any prizes or medallions. Two checkers must be at the five miles turning point,'and each of'flie fen riders must ride around the said checkers.
