Worthy, the wellknown veterinarian surgeoh awl poultry-keeper, was found dead in a stable at his residence this morning, with a bullet wound in tho roof of his mouth a.nd a revolver beside him. Deceased left a letter addressed to his wife, stating that lie had been worrying over matters connected with a libel action at Na<picr. MR ERASER'S DEFENCE. WELLINGTON, July 3. The statement that the public works policy oF tho present Government has not been sufficiently vigorous was replied to by the Minister, Hon. W. Eraser, in his speech today. He declared that all the ■works that had been authorised had boon carried on actively, and that lie had never said that he did not have enough money to carry 011 these works. When, however, lie had been asked to pledge himself to put certain sums for works upon this session's estimates he bad declared that he would make no .such promise. Mr A\ iliord : on have been very "doleful!'' Mr I'raser added that some member had triad to draw him to make a statement as to what would appear on this year's estimates. "Thev must, however." he .said, "possess their souls in patience until they get the Public Works Estimates. ■Ministers as a rule do not give this information in advance, an-d I certainly am not going to do it."
