There has been an epidemic of claims to "millions" in New Zea-land-lately, but it appears that one of tho claimants, a Chrkstchurch resident, is by no means in pursuit of an elusive fortune. The gentleman concerned is Mr Joseph Walter, of Marshlands, and the amount is £1,500,000. The case had been mentioned in tho papers before. The story is that Richard John Walter, an army veteran, of Point Chevalier, told a witness that he was supposed to bo heir to a large fortune, which he had never bothered to claim for years. No relative was discovered until lately, when it was found that a brother of the army veteran had been living in Chris tchurch for years. Mr Walter is moving to have his claim investigated in Chancery, .and his son (Mr J. Walter), who is well known in athletic circles in Christchurch, is now on bis way to tho Old Country with proofs of identity. Tho information came to Mr Walter not through any of the agencies that make a business of luring people on with visions of unclaimed fortunes, but from tho Public Trustee, who is strongly of opinion that the heir has been discovered. The opinion \s said to have been strengthened by the best legal advice—Dominion.
