Hospital Matters
PROPOSED ALTERATION OF
DISTRICT
The following letter i'rom the In-spector-General was road at last meeting of the Horowhenua Coun-
ty Council:—"Sir,—l am instructed by the Hon. the- Minister to inform your council that he lias duly considered the representations made by the deputation which waited upon him on the 3rd April with regard to the petition of residents of the Tokonuiru and "Wirokino Ridings that such ridings should be incorporated in the Palmorston North Hospital District."
The Minister intimated to those present at the interview referred to that the Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Act does not provide for the partition of counties. To give effect to the substance of Iho petition would necessitate the re-casting of the Hospital and Charitable Institutions Act. There are two courses open to your council in this matter which would receive every consideration from the Government — (1) That the whole of the Horowhenua County he merged in the Kairanga County. (2) That the Tokomnru and Wirokino Ridings be merged in the Kairanga County. By this means the ridings would come under the administration of the Palmerston North Hospital Hoard as regards hospital matters. To bring about either of these changes would necessitate speci.il legislation.
