A Pioneer Settler's Death
• There died at Wellington, last Monday evening, one of our early settlers, in the person of Mr Arch. Kelly, who. at the age of 7(3, passed hence. His reminiscences would' make a very readable book. With all his skill learnt on the Clydebank, he wns unable to get work at his profession, and having, in Dunedin, a young family to maintain, he gladly broke stones to keep the wolf from the door. Often he slyly boasted of never having waited for a job to turn up. His faith was amply rewarded by a long career in the engine rooms of the various coastal boats for over half-a-conturv, and on retiring he received a handsome bonus from the owners of the s.s. Kahu, on which vessel he had been chief engineer for seventeen years. Mr Kelly was the father of Mrs J. W. Gibson, of Levin. The funeral takes place in Wellington to morrow, and Mr Gibson's store in Levin will lie closed all day. to enable Mr and Mrs Gibson to attend tho funeral.
