Municipal Elections
POLLING IN LEVIN. To-day is the statutory polling day for elections of mayors and councillors throughout Now Zealand; also of Harbour Board representatives. In Levin there is 110 contest for the mayoralty this year, but eleven candidates are up for tlie nine vac-ant councillorships, and' a fairly keen spirit of friendly rivalry is apparent amongst some of the candidates and their various supporters. In the early morning the polling was light, like tho showei of rain that fell, hut as the hours wore on tTie fact became cvid'ent that a fairly strong poll would to taken, as conveyances began to wheel up to the polling booth increasingly ofton. The occasion being a half-lioliday, the town has been quite lively this afternoon, wltli business suspended and arguments progressing at every comer. No fann work vexes Han. or Lan., And free from care are D. and P.; To-day it's catch a vote who can And so climb up tlie civic tree. Scoops, yardsticks, forceps, wax and plough Pro tern are laid away; Each cit. meets smiles and friends enow: For 'tis election day!
