ACCLIMATISED GAME,

Acclimatisation matters aro complex. in this district there aro various people li;il)le to severe penalties under the Jaw for broaches oi' the statutory protection afforded to imported game; mid their offences hare been unwittingly. In this regard a warning -will hi' timely and beneficial to those settlers who own tame mallard ducks. To sell any oi these constitutes a breach .of the statute: mallard {lucks sire protected as imported game, and before anyone may sell them legally he must be possessed <)v a ga modeller's license. which is issued on payment of L's. and is operative for only three months in the ve.ur. We have the toregoing particulars on the authority of Mr 0. If. Bonld, ranger for the Wellington Acclimatisation Society, who this week is making one of his periodical visits to these parts. In the course of a general 'discussion. Mr Bonld remarked that another erroneous belief in these parts concerned the pukelco hird. Tiiis season (Tor one month only) it it would 1h» permissible to shoot keko in ;a delimited area between Shannon and Foxton, hut in other' parts of the Wellington district, they would be protected l as usual.* Tn a general reference to game. Mr Would remarked that ducks in these parts .appeared to he fairly plentiful tin's season, but lie regretted to notice that since the protection had been removed from hares they were almost cleared out. Supplementary to Mr Bonld's remarks, we print in another coin inn of to-day's Chronicle n summary of the provisions and bars arranged for this season by the Wellington Acclimatisation .Society.
