The size of eels, like the size of j trout, sometiines depends on whether they arc caught or lost hy the angler. To-day, however, The Chronicle has a paragraph about two hugo eels that did "not" escape. Mr Rerc Nicholson caught two large eels in his basket this year, and had them shut up in a trox in tho Hokio creek for some timo. Yesterday they were taken out. killed, and weighed. Together they went to the enormous weight of 401l)B, one being 24Jlbs and the other 15}lbs. John Barnes, who stole a motor cycle from the stables of the Grand Hotel, Levin, appeared for sentence in Wellington on Saturday. He was admitted to probation for three yeans on the condition that he made good the damage to the bike and paid £o costs and remained of good 'behavious.
