A new development of the coal strike is a secret conference of representatives of tho northern and Bonthern coal miners and tho Newcastle coal trimmers, held on Saturday night. It is rumourefl that as a result coal from the Miami pits may bo declared black. This action is to he taken to stop tho South Coast colliers carrying Newcastle coal. Tho Newcastle delegate board todny discusses these questions. ATtor tho recent meeting Petor Bowling declared that the position could not say as it was; ho knew the feeling of the / northorn, also that of the western miners; they were inclined to cense work, and the tendency was for the trouble to spread and become more pronounced than ever. Th(» South Coast strike is entering its sixth week, and is no nearer settlement. The owners have returned horses to tho paddocks, and it is reported they are prepared to keep them idle till August, when the present award expires. Over £50.000 already has been lost in wages, and the trade of the whole district is paralysed. The .Broken Hill agreement provides that all tho men shall be reinstated before five o'clock to-night. and that any reduction in wages (excepting by the Wages Board) shall be considered victimisation. The. tramway has resumed running. and supplies are reaching town. MELBOURNE. This Thy.
