County Council.
Details were set in Saturday's first edition of The Chronicle of the chief heads of business to come beforo Horowhenua County Council at its ordinary monthly meeting that day. Following are details of various decisions arrived at :—
The necessary dedications and authorities for the Kuku Estate subdivisional roads were received and given by the council.
The engineer is to furnish a report on the condition of Koputaroa floodgate, referred \o in a. letter from .Mr W. 11. Taylor.
The schedule of contributions towards establishing a Mauawatu Court (drawn up by Palmcrston Chamber of Commerce) was considered. It allocated £25 as the share of Horowlicnua County Council. Councillors Richards. Monk and Skennan all expressed opinions that the grant should not be made. Councillor Richards remarked that an exhibition at Auckland would do no good to this district; not twopence worth of good. ]f the exhibition was to be held at Wellington possibly some good might result; but what trade was there with Auckland? ho asked. Finally it was moved by Councillor Monk, and seconded by Councillor Skerman. that no action he taken regarding the request for a subsidy.
Regarding the Government's cirfiilar as to supplying local bodies with hardwood (at a nominal increase on the landed cost, to cover cost of handling, etc.), the council passed a resolution in favour of the Government's proposal to undertake the work. The county engineer was instructed to send the Public Works Department an estimate of the sizes of timber the county used most.
It was mentioned that a small sum of Government money was in hand, and could be spent soou on the road written about by Mr Li. 11. Stiles, but that there was no likelihood of rate moneys being available at present.
Councillor Venn proposed and Joiincillor Stephenson seconded,

Councillor Kebbell moved, and Councillor Prouse seconded, "That the engineer attend to Mr S. "While's complaint and, if necessary, put in a larger culvert.

Councillor Watson moved. Coun•illor Monk seconded, and it was '••(•solved:—"That the cleric comniun:enfe with the Telegraph Department, requesting permission for the "onnoil to utilise the tejegraph poles it Ohau and Wnikanac for the pur)ose of placing lamps thereon.
