I}ECORD DISPLAYS BY BUSINESS FIRMS. Striking evidence of the flourishing condition of trade is to he found in the Advertising columns of the daily Press. The Newspaper Owner and AVorld 6tates that "the past few weeks (December) have constituted a record in the number of advertisement orders received." This statement was supported by Mr S. H. Benson, the head of the firm of advertising consultants and agents of that name. "Agents just I now are exceptionally busy," lie said, "booking advertisements far Christmas and after. During the past few weeks the value of the orders that liavo passed through the hands of my firm is probably double that of tlioso received during the corresponding period of last year. Some of these orders—for series of advertisements extending over Christmas— are costing the advertisers from £5,000 to £20,000 each. Our staff is working overtime daily. "The increase in the amount of advertising is no doubt primarily due to the larger profits that are boing made by traders. Firms which a i year ago inserted a small three or four-inch advertisement are now occupying half a page or a. page of a newspaper. Another reason is that the trade prosperity of this year has led to the oening of new businesses, and therefore added to the number of advertisers."
