The disastrous flood at Mataura practically overflowed the Waimca Plains, doing an immense amount of damage to crops, stock and other property. The river overflowed her banks at Gore and the water is oft. deep in the main business part of tho town. The damage must run into many thousands of pounds. At Mat-aura an 8-roomcd house was ■washed away, and numbers arc marooned in the paper mills and on higher parts of the township. In Wyndham there is four feet of water in the main street. The Ensign, the evening paper, was not able to publish, there being 4ft of water in tho machine room. GORE. Ma roll 30. As a result of the devastating flood round Gore cvarly on Saturday morning, the damage to the town and district is estimated at over £200.000. At least- 300 houses at Gore alone were submerged, and all the business portion of the town was inundated. Thousands of sheep and hundreds of horses and cattle were carried down the river, audi tho late harvest is all lost. A torrent five feet deep rushed down the main street nil Saturday.
