The Oddfellows' Banquet.
J here was a large gathering jf visiting lodgenien in Mr Williams's tea 100111s. Levin, last night, where a tasty supper had been laid Bro. J. Tuoliy occupied the chair, and proposed tho health of the King Bro. J. A. Boake, P.G.M., proposed '•Prosperity to tho ilnnchester Unity." coupled with tho toast if "the New Zealand branch." He said that the Manchester Unity had been formed close 011 a hundred years ago, with the idea of alleviating the tioubles of mankind by making them more brotherly and by making them strive to the one end It was worked on practically the same idea as all other I'rtondly Societies- the betterment of man. The toast was responded to by Bro. J. Kershaw, C.S. He thanked them for tho way in which the toast bad boon received, and said that the or dor had never been on such a sound footing as at present, especially at Home. Bro. A. Petrin. P.P.G.M., proposed "The Kindred Societies." Bro. G. Davison responded 011 behalf of tbe Fores te>rs, saying that in this district, the best goodfellowtdiip existed betwen the several orders, an.l he hoped it would continue. Bro. M. Doyle responed also, on behalf of tbe Hiberian Society. Bro. Avery proposed "Prosperity ( of tho Wellington District, coupled I
with the name of the Deputy Gra.i Master." The toast was to by Bro. J. A. Boake. P.G.M.
The Deputy Gniu.il Master proposed "Tiic Victoria Diamond Lodge." and Bro. G. Astridge. P.G.M., re sponded.
The health of "The Ladies" was proposed hy Tiro. A. »T. Tbhoteon, P.P.O.M. He said that it was * pity the ladies did not go to meet-
ings of the lodge, as an evening without the presence of ladies always fell rather flat. Bro. A. M. Salek, P. 0., responded on behalf of the ladies and showed a wide knowledge ol his subject. "The Health of the Board of Di .vectors" and "The Press" concluded the toast list. During the evening Bro. Pearee recited, and was heartily applatided. Goats worth. and Shannon by Rev. N. Hyde. Considerable interest was taken i*. Lovin regarding the motor cycling events conductod last Saturday. It was a motor-cycle side-car reliability trial—tlio courso being from Wellington to Levin and back, a, distance of 129 miles. The start was made at 7 .a.m., and the first motor-cycle returned at 0.29 p.m. "Each side-car carried a lady. The first prize (Dr. Boss's trophy) has been awarded to Mr Harold Pliminer (% h.p. Matchless)'. and Mrs Plimmer, who was in the car. will receive the bracelet presented by Mr and Mrs Boanchamp Platts. Mr "R. S. "Render (7 h.p. Indian) lias won the olnb's trophy, valued mt £1 Is.
