Second Edition Levin & District Beautifying Society.
A meeting of the committee of tho Lovin and District Beautifying Society was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening, when matters in connection with the forthcoming Floral .Fete and Gymkhana wore discussed. Arrangements were reported to be well forward, and. given a fine day on Wednesday next, a very successful gathering is looked for. Special attention is drawn to the maypole and other dances on the lawn, by the children specially trained by Miss Duff, and the public is earnestly requested to loyally support this effort of the society. Considerable interest is being taken in the art union, for which valuable oil and water-colour paintings,'-and other art treasures, have been donated by various well-known artists. The drawing on Thursday evening, during the concert at the Century Hall, will bo of considerable interest to all concerned. In an advertisement to appear to-morrow there will be set out all the attractions for the Fete and concert. Tickets for the art union, carrying admission to the ground, may ho obtained at the Council Chambers, or from any membor of the committee. Members of sports bodies, and others interested, are 'requested to attend a meeting to be held in the Borough Council Chambers, to-night. at' 8 o'clock, to make (i arrsuigementji for carrying out sport's programme.
The track- prospecting party that is to cross the Tararna ranges in search of a track from Levin to Eketahuna, via the Manngahno river, •will comprise Messrs K. S. Lancaster. Cr. L. Adkin and J. Devine. Tt is likely that a start will he made from Kevin ab~out the first week in March., Photographs of the river now in possession of "Mr Lancaster show that the Maungahao river is of a comparatively ease grade in its middle and lower reaches, and the hills immediately surrounding it show probability of a suitable pass boinjc found throngh a .convenient saddle.
