ORDINARY FORTNIGHTLY .MEETING.
Levin Borough Council held its ordinary fortnightly mecFing 'ast night, Councillor Blenkhorn presiding. There also were present Councillors E. S. Lancaster, R. Prouse, 11. B. Franco, IVJL Fosella, F. E. Parker and D. Hannan. BOROUGH OVERSEER'S REPORT. The borough overseer reported *:> follows, under date of 3rd February : —"I beg to submit the following report on work done during the past month— "That tho metalling of Princess street extension has been completed. Also the right-of-way from Chamberlain street to .Bradley's stables, •) distance of about seven chains, ha; been formed and metalled. "I am getting along with "tfio bicycle track as fast as possible; T have given it two 'coats of tar and wind from Bath street, almost to Stuckoy street. It is very annoying to find so much horse trafficon it. The onl> way to have ii stopped, that I can sec, is to make an example of some of the offenders. T have also done a deal of it pail's to tho present footpaths; most of them require top-dressing again "The roads throughout the borough are in very fair order. "Water races take up a fair amount of time just now. owing to so many sm.i.ll pnddocks being shut up they get overgrown with grass. One or two of the races have been rather short of water for a few days, but the caretaker is regulating them so as 'O gel more water to-day. '■'The water supply as far as the intake and tanks are concerned has been very satisfactory during the ' month. T have had to effect a c ew repairs to tho fire plugs since they have been cleaned out. and also epair a couple of small leaks in tho mains. T have had most of the fire plug indicators replaced, and most of the fire plugs have been raised that were said to be too low. "The water meter for the Boys' Training Farm. "Weraron, has censed working. Tt had stopped once 'efore for about three days, and T had j no trouble to get it going again, but this time I hare not been so successful. The only reason for the stoppage that T can give is that there was a blowout of one of the dead ends of the .pipes at the farm. The directions say that the water must not exceed 300 gallons per minute. "Whether the blowout has caused the meter to exceed that quantity, and thus put it out of gear. I cannot say. I have stopped the water going through tho meter, and lot it go direct through the main, which I thought advisable until tho engin eer came, which visit we have been expecting so long. "In concluding I should like + o thank your council on behalf of the men and myself for the rise in wages, which was very much appreciated, as it places them on the same footing as the county workmen.—Yours, etc., T. Hook. Overseer." The report and its reeonimenrlntons were adopted. EXOtLASLiE OF SECTIONS. Councillor Fiance moved, Councillor Lancaster seconded, and it wai resolved, "lliat the roaurves committee be instructed to go into tho question of a suitable exchange for auction 2, block NVIIL, and to make a recommendation to the council at the nexc meting."' The abovenamed section is an Education Board reserve that cannot be purchased, but which will be of benefit to the borough for future beau tih" cation purposes if an exchange can be arranged. The possible exchanges are for sections in Essex street, Devon street ami Kent street respectively.
