SOME FURTHER PARTICULARS
Commendable expedition by judges and stewards ensured that practically all the main awards were allotted before noon, the result being that patrons of the show were able to see at a glance the prizewinners in practically each class as they inspected it. This expedition wa.s the more commendable inasmuch as the entries were much beyond the average in most ol' the classes. The Chronicle publishes in to-day's second edition merely a Fragmentary notice the prizetaking, but a complete list will appear in to-morrow's Chronicle. The Hon. H. D. Bell was to have opened the show, but he wa.s prevented from journeying up. Tn his absence. Mr W. H. Field, patron of the show, and a practical pastoraTist and farmer, delivered a speech of congratulation to the .society and its patrons, in which he dwelt upon the [steady and marked progress made by the Horowhenna A. and P. Association since it.s inception, but especially in recent- years. AMATEUR .JUDGING. .Seven young men entered for the amateur judging class in sheep. Mr A. Law (of Shannon) came first, with ten points, Mr R. Law (also of Shannon) second, with eight points, and Mr l'\ Ward (of Levin) third, with six points. In the pet lamb class .Master Douglas McDonald's entry was placed first. Other placings were Miss Griffiths' entry 2nd. .Miss Very Richard's entry 3rd. Miss Rita Catley's entry Ith. and .Miss M. Law's entry fifth'. First prizewinners in the farmers' classes were Messrs IT. J. Richards (2). W. TJ. Weggery, .John Davies (1).
I For best pet .sheep, -Miss Cissie Broad belt got first, Mr W. H. Weggery second, 'Miss Vera Richards third, while for best pot ewe with lamb at foot Miss Vera Richards wa.s first and Miss Sissie Broad belt >econd. Miss Vera Richards got third place also. In the purebred ram classes Mr D. Gardner (Koputaroal and Mr J. [\ebbell (Oban) secured the respective first prizes. For tho dairy cow in milk, calved since July. IDIO. the placing was T. H. Colpman's entry 1, .Saxon Brothers 2. 0. K c. Webb's 3. Saxon Brothers v.h.o. For dairy cow in milk to first oalf the placings were: P. E. Palmes' Silver Bell 1; T. H. Oolpman's Highland Marv 2. H. J. Pond's Dolly 3. "N. T/. Glnssford's Diddy was verv highly commended. 'Mrs .T. Jones' Flo highly commended, and Mr F. H. Best's Pansy commended. There were thirteen entries. First prize for a milk cart turnout went to Mr K. Herrick .of Levin Village Settlement.
