CURE FOR GRAVEL AND STONE.
When there is a sediment like brickdust in tho urine it is an indication that the kidneys are nob doing their work properly, and immediate steps should he taken to restore their healthy action. It this precaution is neglected, the particles may gradually become 'argcr, and the miserable sulieiing caused by Gravel or Stone result, Htones are usually formed in the Kidneys, and descend thence into the oladder. They are composed of uric aid, or of oxalate ot lime—solid mat mt which should be held in solution ui the lluids of the body, and be passed -iff in a dissolved condition in the urine. Uric acid stone is by far tho commonest kind When a stone is formed in a kidney, great 1 pain in the loins is felt, and this becomes agonising when the" stono leaves the kidney and passes through one of the narrow channels leading to 'lie bhiddet. The pain then experienced is known as Kidney Colic.. It ceases when the stone reaches the bladder.
Once in the bladder, the stone may be passed off with the urine, or it may remain and become larger by the ae cumulation of deposits. Sometimes a stone will form in tfie bladder by the simple leathering together of particles of gravel. Persons of all ages may suffer from stone or gravel. Even little children are not exempt. When a stone, formed in the kidneys, is too large to pass through the pascage leading to the bladder, the pas sage becomes closed, dropsy sets in, and the patient may die in a few horn*. When stones remain long in the bladder they grow to a great size, some times as large as an orange, and they frequently have to be cut out. The rational method of treatment is to correct the action of the kidneys, •hereby removing the cause. In a healthy condition of the kidneys and urinary system the water holds the solids in solution until it escapes from the body. In disease the solids are deposited in the kidneys and bladder. From Mr. Hans Nilsen, 207, Millerstieet. North Sydney, N.S.W., 19th October, 1911.
