PU BLIS HED DAILY
LEVIN. .SATURDAY, -JANUARY 18, I<Jl3. PLAY FAIR WITH THE WATER. The advent of a dry period in dur usually perfect and impartial climate behoves those who are dependent on our (splendid system of irrigation, installed some years ago bv
the Horowhenua County Council, to carefully cherish the water suppli id by the races, but .not, as is appi. - ently the wise from an advertisement which appears in this issue, t j cherish it unto themselves at tho expense of their unfortunate fallows "further down." The advjtisenient referriid to is evidently r.b r final stand taken by harassed oilieials who daily and many times dur Ing each day are interviewed by indignant ratepayers who plaintive!*' complain that they have "no water." Tt would be well for those who selfishly and perhays thoughtlessly utilise the water in the races for purposes other than water!an their stock to sit up and take noti-'e of the advertisement which we liar? referred to. The Water Supp'y Act is particularly convincing when the penalties are taken into consideration. and we are sure that when ratepayers aud others who "diver! water from any water race" or '"'o cause or permit to be done any act whereby the water in any waterrace is drawn oil' or diminished in quantity" realise, not only that those in authority are in the position to set the wheels of the law In motion, but that they themselves a redoing irreparable harm to others whom they are actually robbing o. their share of the water, there will he an end to the annoyance all round.
