Herr Mariano Heggelet, a German who lias spont fifteen years in England, has for the entertainment of his compatriots described the English. Apart from what concerns sport, he finds that the Englishman has adopted, and adheres to the following among other rules of life:— 1. Don't change anything unless it is already too Into. 4. ' Don't possess an exaggerated sense of duty ; there are other people in the world. • r ). Forget everything quickly ; recollection only disturbs the poacc of the soul. G. Keep no promise; unless pleasure or sport is concerned . 7. Do nothing thoroughly; do only what is absolutely necessary. 8. Don't begin anything too soon • 'n-ntorrow is also a day. 9. Indifference and callousness take one quietly through life. 10. Superficiality and ease save trouble iand embellish existence.
