A fire at Foxton last night destroyed some stables in the Avenue load. A social gathering and dance will bo held in Manakau on Wednesday to celebrate the; opening of tho now Town Hall. Tho proceeds will go to the fund for providing prizes to bo given to the scholars of Manakau Public School.
Tho secretary of the Levin Horticultural Society (Mr R, D. Wallace) has worked out the points prizes in tho several sections as follows:—Pot plants (greenhouse grown): Mrs R. Prouse, 1; Mrs ft. A. Mac Donald 2 : pot plants (outside grown): Mrs J. Howell, 1; Mrs R. A. Mac Donald 2. Cut blooms, Mrs C. Noes, 1. Sweet pens, Mrs C. Jackson (Foxton) 1. Decorative, Miss Lancaster, 1. "Fruit iand produce, Mr D. Judd (Otaki), 1. Domestic, Mrs J. Ikgrie (28 points), 1; Miss' D. Goldsmith (20 points) 2; Mrs P. W. Goldsmith (19 points) 3. Domestic (children under 15 years). Miss Fwiith Willson, 1. Interesting comparisons between tho Levin and Otaki Flower Shows are made by the Otaki Mail. The entries for tho Levin Show totalled 553, as against 655 at Otaki Spring Show. However, the Levin schedule did not comprise needlework, and was a little less lengthy thnn tho Otaki one. It is interesting to note that Lovin 'had a few more entries than Otaki for cut blooms, tho figures being: Levin 122, Otaki 103. In the decorative section, Otaki had 88 entries as against ■Levin's 82, while Otaki liad 200 entrios in domestic, Lovin 191; sehoolwork, Levin 79, Otaki 93; pot plants, L'ovin <15, Ofcaki 29; fruit and vegetables, Otaki 36, Levin 34 .
