At the annual meeting ut' Messrs •Abraham ami Williams, Limited, at I'aliiiorslon .North, alter the balance sheet and report which showed a very satisfactory state of affairs, bad been road the following additional business was transacted:—-
On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr Da vies, it ua.s resolved that a dividend of li per cent, be declared on the [inid up capital ot the company for the operations ot the halt year, making with the interim dividend paid in April last (i per cent , for the year.
Messrs AY. A. Keillor and li . Toogood wore re-elected directors; and Messrs HutheiTurd and Connell and Mr P. S. Sim were re-appointed auditors.
On the motion of .Mr Holtou. seconded liy .Mr Caccia THroh. a hearty vote of thanks was pus,sod to tlio of-H'mm-s of (he concern, and on tlio motion of Mr Caccia Birch it was resolved that a special vote of appreciation bo accorded to Mr Harold K Abraham, tlio company's maim ger at Levin (who has lately resigned in order to lake up an important position with Mr Newton King, of Now Plymouth) for I lie very wiLisfactory manner in which he had ■attended to the interests of Hie company as manager at Levin. The dene-nil Manager responded t,o the resolution on behalf of the staff, which ho said was thoroughly deserved, and he gave credit to the officers of the various branches for the unselfish way in which they worked together, quite regardless of the individual interests of -their respective branches, as long as tlio general good of the concern was involved. He ]K)intod out that the cost ot living was now much higher and we must expecL an increase in our I ratio expenses to enable us to retain our best men, who would otherwise be liable to be drawn away by offers from other concerns. He hoped, at the next annual meeting, to he able to show a considerable increase in that capital account which would enable the company to extend their business into profitable lines, «nd so increase the earning of its officers.
Two popular beliefs were exploded nt the meeting of the Otago institutes on Thursday night, says the Star, One is as to the voracity of dog fish.
