Levin Rejects Rating on Uimproved Values. JSY A TWO TO ONE MA,IOIUTY. Keen interest was taken in the municipal natepayois' poll yesterday, on the ipi est ion of whether Levin should adopt the system of rating upon unimproved values. The total vote cast ran to 3(14. and it was noteworthy that a few ratepayers came from Auckland, Wellington ;and intermediate districts to participate in the poll. -Motor cars ami horse traps were in evidence throughout the day. bearing voters to and fiom the pulling booth. while knots of ratepayers conducted spirited but friendly arguments outside the Boroujrh Council Chambers concerning the merits and demerits of the proposal. Mr P. W. Goldsmith, Town Clerk, acted as returning officer, having the assistance of Miss Goldsmith as ]>01l clerk. The voting went steadily on through the day. but was slacker towards 7 p.m.. partly on account of rain setting in between li p.m. and 11.30. The declaration of the poll was made in less than twenty-live minutes from closing time. The furores, were as follow: - For the proposal 118 Against the proposal ... 213 Informal 3 i'hiis {here was a majority of 120 votes against the proposal to adopt rating on unimproved values in Levin borough.
