Labour Day is to be observed next Monday, 28111 October. By a majority of five votes, the House of Representatives passed a vote expressing regret at Sir Joseph Ward refusal to withdraw his statement that a f remark of Mr. Hine to him was " a piece of impertinence." The division was strictly on party lines. Lovin tradespeople havo been ask" in«r as to tli» law in respect of Labour Day. The position is that shops need not oloso on that day. Factories, trades, etc., working under special awards will be bound by any provisions therein, respecting Labour Day. In all other factories it will lie necessary to givo a holiday to all girls or women employed, and to all youths under tlio age of eighteen. Air.
