Levin Defence Rifle Club.

' .— l-* ANNUAL MEETING. THE NEW RIFLE RANGE. The annual meeting of the L-.vin Defence Rifle Out) was held last evening in the Century Hall. Captain G. P. Brown presided, and there were also present: Riflemen W. R. Ingram (.secretary), L. Ingram, -J. Munro. J. Jones, J. Muir, P. Jones and H. C. Ingram. The chairman, in opening the proceedings, said thflt the chief business was to consider the matle: , 'of a new rifle range. The bahuico sheet showed that the club' nad a substantial credit balance, notwithstanding the fact that the outgoings wore heavier than usual. He thought the fact that there was this substantial balance was due to the secretary and reflected much credit upon him. The secretary then read the ain ual report. This Was as follows:—"It gives me much pleasure in presenting you with the sixth annual report and balance-sheet for the year ending August 31st, 1012.. In doing so T must say that the Club has had a very successful year, both in shooting and' financially. The Club's position is on a good sound financml ; "basis as it anee this'year of £7 12s <; G'|<l as against last year the balance was £9 Is Ud, which is a shade more than last. year. This is due to the Club having heavier liabilities to , meet this last year than the previous ye«r. 1 am sorry to .say that the Club has. not made any new members during the last season : but this coming senson I think the Club will do better as there are several looking forward to join already. 1 have to report that the Club has no'range at present; the old range that- we have had so long is- nwv being ploughed up. 1 have made enquiries for a new range from several residents in our town, but have not had luck enough to procure one yet. It seems very difficult to be able to get a range close at band, and if we are successful in getting one with this next week it means a lot of work to be done to got ready for shooting. This means « late start this season, and it is to be hoped that every member will do his best and help to get things ready as .soon as possible. The Club has bad a very good number of trophies to shoot for during tTie season, and the trophies have also been well divided amongst the members, and the haiidicapper, Mr J. Muir, must be congratulated on the way in which he carried out his duties. The Club ' heartily thanks all tlvose who sn kindly donated trophies for eompc, tition amongst the members. Following are the names of persons who donated Irophies during tlie year: 1 Messrs W. H. Field, Veitch and Allan. J. AV. Gibson. AV. Palmer, J. 1 W. Thompson. Patterson -and Co., ; Thos. Jeiiman. 1 ,, . J. Olackin, ('apt. (!. P. Blown. Riflemen AV. Ingram, J. Rutherford and P. Jones. Tho Club also competed for the Fresh Food an<l Ice Company's silver cup, ' and also sent n team .to Palniorstuii North to compete for the Field Shield, but was unsuccessful in each event. The Club did not take any part in any friendly matches last vear on account of not being able to get a team away at any time. ' The shooting of all the members was 1 of a very good standard all through the season — belter than the year before. Tho members also competed for the Championship Belt, Bul- ' ler Cup, and also a silver cup presented by Mr F. J. Glackin. The 'aggregates in all these three cninpetitions were much higher this year than the previous year. The \.in- ; net- of tin . Championship Belt vas ■ Rifleman P. Jones, while Rifleman ■ AV. Ingram was runner-up. Tho Muller Cup was won by Rifleman AV. Ingrain, Rifleman P. Jones b< ing 1 runner-up. The Olackin Cup was ufiu by Rifleman P. Jones, while ! Rifleman AV. Ingram was niuuor- ! up. The Club finished up the season by holding a "social" and dance, which turned out a success. This showed a fair credit balance. There were three possibles put on during the season by Riflemen AV. Ingram (200dys), L, Ingram (500yds), and P. Jones (oOOyds.)
