. 4 HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. WELLINGTON, September 24. The High Commissioner's report, under tin to London, the 21st inst., is as follows :— Mutton.—The market is slightly weaker, with less demand on account of high prices, but stocks are moderate. Holders are firm, and there is no change in prices. Canterb'iry 4gcl, North Island 4jd. Lamb.—Market quite. The weather lately has been very unfavourable to the sale of lamb. The supplies of home-grown lambs are heavy which tends to lower prices. New Zealand lamb. Canterbury o-jd, other than Canterbury uid. Beef.—Market firm although large supplies are coming forward. River Plate drilled beef curtails the retails demand. New Zealand bind- , quarters forequarters, 3J<l. River Plate chilled hindquarters Hd forequnrters 3Jd. Butter.—Tlie market is very firm, with a brisk demand for best quality, but for ordinary quality—of which there is a large quantity on hand—there is poor demand. Prospects are uncertain and speculative in NW Zealand .second hands, which are nominal at 1225: Australian 144s Danish 131s. Siberian 110s. Cheese.--Market nuiet, with littlt doing, hut a. good fueling prevails. Canadian ffos fxl, English Cheddar 7.15. New Zealand (at second hand) • 07s. Hemp.—Market qufct. There is a better demand and gftod business has been done in distant deliveries. October-December New Zemlnnd good-fair grade £27 10s, fair grade £20: fair Manilla £28. JanuaryMarch £28 10s. Oats.—Market firm, with more enquiry. > T ew Zealand short sparrowbills, 26s 6d. Beans.—Market steady, with improved demand on account of English crops 'being in had condition. At Addington to-<3ay there were fair entries of stock and a good attendance. .Fat cattle were a shade easier, fat sheep opened at rates sflinewhat below those of last week, fat lambs .sold well, and store sheep 'brought quite up to late rates.
