Farewell messages to Capta/n and Mrs Arnold, who are leaving Levin, have been received from Commissioner. Richards and other notables of the Salvation Army. Tin's kindly feeling towards them is shared in by many local residents. Arrangements are to bo made by the Wellington Education Board for the conveyance of children from Kimberley road to Levin, approximately, three miles, for the regulation allowance. Fresh eggs are in good demand on the Wellington markets at Is per dozen. Pollard has good inquiry at £7 os to £7 10s per ton; bran is in full supply, and is quoted at £o 15s to £6 per ton." Tn the Salvation Army Hall tonight, Major Carmichael (the Divisional Commander) will lecture on the life of Mrs General Booth. At Marylebone Police Court a chauffeur was brought before. Mr . Plowden charged with driving his car at the rate of forty miles an hour. Tn defence tho chauffeur said that if it was necessary, and travelling at that rate, he could pull up in ten or twelve feet. "Urn!" said Mr Plowden. On an export being called, the Magistrate asked : "Tf a motor car was travelling at forty miles on hour, and the brakes could be put on in such a manner as tn stop it within ten or twelve feet, where would the driver goP" "That would depend very much on the sort of life Le haul been lending." ans ered the expert "Hm!" Mr Plowden. A lending cricketer, speaking to a Chronicle reporter yesterday, commented in very favourable terms upon tho improvements which are to be carried out on the recreation ground. The junior reps, have made quite n name for themselves by twice defeat-in a: Wellington junior reps, within seven days. The holders of tho Union vSbield will have all their work cut out to defeat the juniors, who are unw locally termed "the champions of the coast." Several of the Wanderers are to be nightly seen actively training on the reserve for the coming event.
