MANAWATU B's (16) v. HOROWHENUA B's (7). Although the attendance was not large at this match, which was played on the recreation ground, Levin, on Saturday, a considerable amount of interest was manifested in it, and a fast and exciting game was witnessed. M>anawatu' only played with fourteen men, and Horowhenua was poorly represented. Horowhenua immediately assumed the aggresive and gave Ayling an anxious time, bub the hall was got away through some nice loose passing, and Manawatu attacked strongly, Horowhenua forcing. Mid-field play ensued and subsequently Smith made a pass to Stagpoole who dropped a fine goal from near the half way. Horowhenna were somewhat disorganised, and their play was , ragged, but they improved later on, and the forwards pressed severely. ( The tension was relieved by some 'smart work between Kilpatrick and .Stagpoole, the latter potting a goal. jThis gave Manawatu a lead of 8 points to nil. A nice forward rusli p by Horowhenua was nicely stopped hy Manawatu. the hall going out of touch. Then Stagpoole had a shot at- goal from near the half-way, the ball just missing the uprights. Horowhejnua. came away with a rush, Tim Close and Burrows heading the attack. Lester had a splendid shot at goal, and then Dickson had hard lines in not getting over. The local men were making the game, very willing, hut faulty passing spoilt several chances. At the other end Ferris was very safe at hack, his kicking being clean and strong, and he repeatedly proved to be a thorn in the side of the visitors. Manawatu on several occasions came away with a smart spurt, but Close came to light time and again, and Manawatu attacks were repulsed. Towards the end of the first half, Horowhenua pressed severely, Ayling twice saving at- a critical juncture. Half time found Manawatu leading by 8 pointe to nil. On resuming Manawatu were the first to press, but Luke and Ivaha made a very pretty passing rush, and the visitors were put on the defence. Lowe and Mair put in some good work for Manawatu, but the Horowhenua men were more than holdfng their own, and time after time they had hard lines in not scoring. A fine forward rush, again headed, by Close and Burrows, was nicely stopped by Ayling, and at the other end Ferris continued to play a sound game. At last through a smart passing bout among the Manawatu backs, Stagpoole got over the line. The try was not converted. Horowhenua then asserted themselves, Heta, Peo, Lester and Hector Macdonald being prominent, the first named scoring a try. They continue dto attack, and Macdonald potted a fine goal from tho twentyfive. This made the scores Manawatu 11, Horowhenua 7. The remaining stages of the game were keenly contested, but Manawatu improved their position by scoring a try, which was converted. Manawatu thus winning as above indicated. Mr Martin Winiata controlled the game. Subsequently both teams wore entertained to dinner at the Levin Hotel. HOROWHENUA JUNIOR REPS. (3) v. WELLINGTON (0). Tho return match between these clubs was played at Wellington oil Saturday. The Horowhenua team was the same as that which played against Wellington at Levin on tho previous Saturday, with the exception of Ferris at full-back.' The game throughout was hotly contested, and if anything, Horowhenua had the hotter of matters. The backs especially played a fine game. There was no score at half-time, but shortly after the re-start Waka kicked a splendid penalty goal for Horowhenua, this being the only score of the match. After the contest, "Wellington entertained tho Horowhenua players to dinner and extended to them tlie greatest hospitality.
