Levin-Wanderers journeyed to Otaki on Saturday to play Tainui. Levin was not at its full strength, but Otaki was fully represented. .Mr Minimis refereed, there was a good attendance, and play was last and oxciting. In the scrunin Levin was extremely weak. Levin was the jirst to score, through a penalty by Nepia Winiata. Play ruled fast and even, until Tainui came away 'villi a rush and in the course of .-"vcro pressure Oridiths got over, and Henry Itawiri converted. Levin after this woke up. and pressed severely. a mark by Hawiri temporarily relieving the pressure. liy a splendid, kick Lester brought the hall into lite Tainui From a lineout; flic ball wa.s ihrown to Walter Winiata, who forged himself across the line in line style. Half-time found the teams: Levin. S: Tainui. ■">. On the resumption Otaki went avay with a spun. a passing rush t-'iidiii<2; at half-way. Then Napia eollared two of his o|iponenis and kicked the ball down the Jield. The change of venue, however. wa.s only temporary, as the ball returned to the Levin 'Jo. where a fivc-kick was awarded to Tainui, Raniri'.s attempt failed, and Levin forced down. Tainui continued to press, and another free-kick Mas awarded them. J)icksou (who a decided acquisition to tlie Lei in team) constantly became dangerous in breaking a way. and his loose play was generally admired. Me came away on several occasions with a spurt, but from j time to time he had no one to .support him. Play was consequently somewhat erratic, although Hector McDonald put, in hmiio tine work, and should turn out a reliable player for the visiting team. I'Yeyberg wa.s conspicuous on several occasions, but Levin will need a considerable amount of practice before they can be classed on the same footing as la.st year. Rawiri. for the home team, was illiifpiiloiN. Towards the closing stages of the game he made several line rushes as did also Prim. Levin, attacking strongly, almost got over the the corner, but Prim got the ball away, ami an attack on Levin goal was well saved by Thur.ston tvilli a good kick. N'epia and Walter "Winiata were in groat form and caused the delciiee a lot of anxiety, while Dickson was always to the fore. Pio being a splendid support. iM'Olltually a smart mark was taken by Kerr, who was playing a line game, and liaw iri converted. The game closed with 8 points all. After the match the teams repaired to the {. en(ral Hotel, in the main Street, where an excellent ropast was served b.v Host Mc.lv
