CONCERT AT SHANNON.

On Wednesday evening the Slumnun Amateur Dramatic Society gave an excellent entertainment in Hie Druids' Hall, .Shannon, on behalf of the k'hool picnic iund. to a very huge and appreciative audience. Tho song. "Deal- Little Jaminy Face," sung by Miss Monteith, assisted by "Jolly Little .Jacky," who, it may be mentioned, did not ie~ quire any assistance to put away several jam tarte. was much appreciated. A bone solo, in these days quite a novel item, contributed by Mr •!. AV. Hevry, was specially interesting, and brought forth rounds iof applause- An Irish comic song by the same gentleman was so perfectly rendered that Mr Allen Doone, the great Trish comedian, at present touring the dominion, would have been filled with envy had he hern privileged to hear it. Miss Mavis Terry, a young lady of seven summers, danced a Highland Fling in the truest artistic style. A new comedian of no mean ability was, on this occasion, unearthed in the person of Master Keg. Merwood, who, in his rendering of "My Little Wooden Hut," convulsed the house with laughter by the exceedingly humorous antics with which he accompanied his singing. Songs were contributed by Mrs Norman, Mrs (:jl)s;on. Miss Hall, Mrs Dupill, Miss McDonald aud -Miss Laurvig, aud in each ease the artiste had to respond to an encore. A violin solo, played by Miss !v M. Munro, proved a very popular item, a nencore being insisted upon, which was grac-i-msly accorded. Mr T. Broom, of Vaiaka, the well-known comedian, was heard at his host. His items were extremely popular, and were vociferously encored. A farcical comedy in one act. entitled "My Turn Next." was splendidly executed. and productive of much merriment. The following was the oast of characters:—"Taraxionm Twitters" (a village chemist), Mr J. W. Batchelor: "Tim Dolus" (his assistant), Mr F. King; "Tom Trap," a commercial traveller), Mr R. Law; "Farmer "Wheatoar" (from Banbury) Mr J. Gardiner: "Lydia" (Twitter's wife), Miss M. Woodmas; "Cicely" (her friend'), Mrs R. Terry; "Peggy" (Twitter's maid servant and housekeeper), Miss M. Monteith. Scene: A country chemist's shop parlour. The Dramatic Society's orchestra, under the leadership of Miss Laurvig. rendered several selections, which contributed in no small degree to the success of the evening's programme. Tho takings on this occasion (£27 los) constitute a record for a school concert in Shannon. Tho members of the Dramatic Society deserve the warmest thanks for the generous assistance they have, on the present occasion, extended to the local school.
