There gassed away at Parawanui, Bulls, on Sunday, a well-known isgatoapa cliief, m toe person of Taraua Utilva iUarumai-u. Deceased had. been ailing for the past two and a half years, and had suffered from diabetes and a stroke of paralysis. He was only 48 years of age, and was well-known as a sportsman, having met with considerable success, •both as a breeder and a racing man. Rangipuhi was one of the horses raced by deceased, with which he won at various times the Hawke's Bay, Palmerston, Rangitikei, Feilding, •and Dunedin Cups. Muriwai, St. Joe, Apa and Equitas are among some of the horses he bred. Deceased., was trustee, for the Ngatiapa tribe and acted as chairman of the Kurohaupo Maori Council for years. Dr. Poinare and Sir James Carroll were at deceased's house yesterday. A large tangi is being held and will probably extend, over a. week.
