To Anehor Doors

"When the weather is warm and windows are open, the doors in most houses have ian irritating way of blowing shut with a slam. There arc various devices for holding them open, and a very ingenious new one can be easily made. This useful "door-stop" consists of a cretonne 'bag filled with! shot and fastened to the knob of the door. To get the correct result there arc & few points that must be noticed and followed. To make tho bag, cut a piece of cretonne 7in wide and 18in long. Fold this in the middle and stitch up the sides; then turn in an inch at the top and gather around it with a heavy linen thread, douhlo, leaving some of tho thread "out at each end to pull it up. Fill tho bag with shot and draw up the gathered strings, then tie the ends of the thread very tight. Fasten a long piece of ribbon or tape around the neck* of the bag, leaving one end long. The length of this ribbon depends "on the distance to the door knob from tho floor, where it is to be used, for it must as close a fit as possible. If there is much extra length the door will move in the wind.

The hag stands on the floor just below the knob. and the ribbon must bo carefully measured. At the upper end make a loop of the ribbon that will just fit over the knob, and sew that tight so that it will stand the strain of a heavy pull. O course, tbero must v be enough extra length to alio wtho 100 pto slip over the knob, but the small amount will not much leeway for blowing, and the door will bo very anchored in this way. The bp.a: can he so placed that the door is nnlv opsn n little way. or SO that it is open quite wide. frajicf.'Ksarjsjazaßa vtsee/P
