The Minister of Labour (Mr Beeby), speaking at Ura-na., delivered a significant warning to big land b'olders ; Ho said that the Government intended opening up wheat lands by means of railways. If land holders did not realise the situation the Government had n>o option but to apply the screw. Tlie Riverina, which was- tied up in large estates, should support 10,000,000 people. Under the resumption system it would take fifty million pounds to provide farms for 20,000 settlers, and it was plainly evident that Some other system should be adopted.
