Maori Licensing Poll
LOCAL OPTION ON BARE MAJORITY. For the first time the Maori electors of several Maori .health districts in New Zealand were able to cast their votes yesterday on tho liquor question. It was within their power, on a bare majority, to decide that liquor must not be supplied to a native either by an hotel proprietor or an ordinaiy citizen, tho penalty for infringing the law' being a fine not exceeding £100. Results to hand last night were as follow:— Takitimu district: Continuance carried by 590 votes to 233 polled for no liquor. Rotor u a district-: No liquor 527, continuance 315. "No liquor" carried. Te Arawa district: Continuance 443, no liquor 131. Continuance carried.
